5 Steps To Disable iPhone 3Gs OS 3.0 GPRS or Edge Connection
Update: For Maxis users who installed it and worked previously, but currently it stops working, read the latest post here
Previous we’ve mentioned how to disable iPhone 3G GPRS or Edge connection in 5 steps. However, it only works for iPhone OS 2.0.
If you’ve upgraded your iPhone to OS 3.0, the previous tips to disable GPRS or Edge connection will not be working anymore because “Cellular Data Network” setting can’t be found under “Network” setting.
Thus, there’s no way for iPhone OS 3.0 users to configure APN username and password.
No fear. We’ve found an effective solution to disable GPRS or Edge connection for iPhone OS 3.0 with 5 simple steps.
(Note: This solution requires Internet connection. You may use GPRS, Edge, Wi-Fi or 3G connection to make this works. It only requires very minimum data from Internet)
- Run “Safari” on your iPhone.
- Visit iPhoneNoData.com
- Tap the “Disable Edge/3G”
- Tap “Install”
- Tap “Install Now” to confirm
That’s it! No more auto GPRS/Edge connection when you accidently tap on “Safari”.
You can double check this function by tapping “General” and scroll down to view a new profile as below print screen.
You can also simply uninstall it to enable your GPRS/Edge/3G connection by tapping “General – Profile – Remove”

Nop ! its not working.had tried for two weeks.
I had tried on my 2G(v3.0)and 3Gs.close all the push setting, still after sometime, when look through the Usage/cellular network data, the surfing transfer still occured in both Iphones.
The Manual setting worked on my 2G(2.2.1),but after upgraded to v3.0,the disable setting never work, yes, maybe it work for a few minutes(initially installed),but after that you can still surf the net through Safari in no WIFI coverage area.most of people never look through the data usage,so they will never realized that the undernearth transfer still on the GO.

Works like a charm. But it would be more efficient and practical if we can toggle the service on and off, rather than removing it when not needed. Because in some counties you need to have 3G to use your phone. I’ll be grateful to you if you can make it.

I tried for the first time, it failed for my iPhone 3G (Firmware 3.0). I still can surf with safari after installing the profile. But this is what i do to make it work :
1. Uninstall any profile that you had installed.
2. Turn off your phone and remove your SIM card.
3. Put it back in and turn it on.
4. Go back to the website iphonenodata.com and install the profile.
5. wallah!! “could not activate cellular data network”
It works well for me but surprisingly, i can still send MMS eventhough the GPRS is off.Probably my Network Provider(Maxis) uses a differen APN for MMS.Try restarting your phone after installing the profile.

this method really works on the 3GS …thanx
the only problem is that if you to Disable the Edge you need to use the Data Services which on International networks costs a lot of money .
Is there any way to enable and Disable without having to use the edge service to do so .
my problem is that when on International networks I want to keep switching off my edge and then use it sometimes if I cant find a wi-Fi.
with this system I need to download the disable program every time . is there anyway to store it on my phone ??

Hi everybody!
I think the simple way is:
- Run Cydia
- Install SBSettings 3.0.4
- Run SBSettings by slide to Carrier Logo
- Goto More Option and chose Set Toggles
- Turn on EDGE
- So if you want Disable EDGE only Touch to icon EDGE with Red to STOP and Green to Run.
Very Simple and Faster!
Thanks!

this does not work with iphone 3G 16GB using 3.0.1 firmware on AT&T usa. I’m now going to try the SB settings method. (I got charged $5 of data yesterday after it had appeared to be working for about a week… maybe there is a hidden APN for system updates or something?) i am on att pay as you go.

Bogyman Alvin –
It did work at blocking data perfectly for about a week and then I got a $5 data charge out of the blue. When I checked my usage, sure enough there was 192kb sent and 327 kb received, which should not have been possible with this APN in the profile. I would not be surprised if AT&T has a hidden access point or something for checking system updates or once in a while, which uses the data channel, and they wouldn’t necessarily have to disclose it because they only allow iphones to be activated using a data plan.
But even if this method blocks all (or nearly all) data and is good enough from that perspective, if you have notifications enabled and your mail/calendar/contacts/chat/etc set up for push connections, your iphone will constantly be attempting to check with the server over the network and will use up tons of battery power in the process. You will notice this when you have your iphone near some speakers – the iphone generates an incessant data-network buzzing jangle normally associated with blackberries when they are receiving an email message.
If you uninstall this APN and turn off all your push services (set them to manual) and disable notifications this interference goes away and your battery life will return to normal.
My battery lasted less than a day (usually less than 10 hours of standby and moderate use) with this alternate APN. I removed the APN and disabled push and notifications and its lasting much much longer now.
Meanwhile, to the authors, I really appreciate your efforts at helping solve this tricky problem and would be happy to provide logs or further information if you want them to assist debugging and improving this great offering.

Hi Kay,
Thanks for the tip and everything work like you mention and I can still sms/call with this setup.
But I have 1 question that I hope you can help to explain.
After this change, can we still send MMS and would it be charge as data or normal MMS price by maxis (or other telco).
I am asking because when I try to send MMS, a new “thetering data” row appear under Settings-General-Usage. EVery MMS I send or receive will have additional kilobyte added to this “thetering data”?
Any idea why?
Thanks

I was prompted “the authenticity is not verified and may change settings to your iphone.” how would that affect it? I just got the 3GS a week ago and have been charged a massive amount for the week.
I’m on the HK model, because the China ones have disabled wifi, forcing users to use 3G so they can charge an insane amount for that.
Hope it won’t mess up the whole iphone once i’ve uninstalled edge.
please advise!

For those of you who are using 3gs(3.1.3) this doesn’t work…so suggest you go here http://www.unlockit.co.nz (from your iphone) and go thru the installation to create a dummy APN for your network…once done..you will see the EDGE still connected. Go to your Settings and make sure 3G is enabled and then set your phone to go on Airplane mode (cuts off all network) and wait for about 10 – 15mins…no reboot required. This is a great post. Not only did it help me cut down my GPRS costs in my bill it also solved my iPhone’s battery drain problem! Apparently, apps in the background were constantly using GPRS/EDGE and using up the battery. It would be nice to have a post explaining all about iphone profiles, creating/editing/managing them. Thanks again.
