Update: Another recommended tool – Word Reader.

If you have only Microsoft Office 2003 or XP installed in your computer, reading Word (docx), Excel (xlsx), and PowerPoint (pptx) 2007 file formats might be a problem as these files are not compatible with Microsoft Office 2003 and XP.

It would be not efficient at all if you have to spend time to convert the time manually or ask the sender to save the file again for Microsoft Office 2003 and XP.

To make things fast, Microsoft actually does provide a FileFormatConverters for us to solve this problem.

What is FileFormatConverters

In short, FileFormatConverters allows you to open, edit, and save documents, workbooks, and presentations in the file formats new to Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 with Microsoft Office 2003 and XP.

The Compatibility Pack can also be used in conjunction with the Microsoft Office Word Viewer 2003, Excel Viewer 2003, and PowerPoint Viewer 2003 to view files saved in these new formats.

How To Install FileFormatConverters

The installation of FileFormatConverters is fully automatic.

  1. Just download the executable file from Microsoft.
  2. Double -click the FileFormatConverters.exe program file on your hard disk to start the setup program.
  3. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.
  4. You will be able to use Microsoft Office 2000, Office XP, or Office 2003 to open, edit, and save files using the file formats new to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007.

Work smart!
