Solutions to Disable iPhone 2G/3G/3Gs GPRS or Edge Connection (For Maxis Users)
Previously we’ve mentioned on how to disable iPhone 3G GPRS or Edge connection in 5 steps and 5 Steps To Disable iPhone 3Gs OS 3.0 GPRS or Edge Connection.
However, configured profile which set by iPhoneNoData won’t be functioning anymore for Maxis users after Maxis upgraded their Maxis service from version 4.0 to version 5.0.
The upgrade causes the settings on the iPhone for APN settings are not editable and it will be directly activated by Maxis.
That means, Maxis iPhone users are not able to block GPRS or Edge connection by installing iPhoneNoData nor Unlockit regardless you’re using iPhone firmware 3.0, 3.1 or 3.1.2.
If you’re not planning to get an iData or iValue plan from Maxis to solve this problem, here’re 2 solutions to disable your iPhone 2G/3G/3Gs GPRS or Edge connection.
Solution 1: Call Up Maxis
This is the easiest solution for people who don’t want to jailbreak their iPhone:
Just call up Maxis service centre, talk to the technician and request them to disable your 3G/EDGE/GPRS for your phone number. It will take up to 1-2 hours to complete the whole process.
The only disadvantage for this solution is you’re not able to receive or send MMS since there will be no more GPRS connection on your iPhone.
In order to enable your 3G/EDGE/GPRS back, just call up Maxis service centre and ask them to do so.
Solution 2: Jailbreak iPhone and Install SBSettings
- You can jailbreak iPhone 3.1.2 firmware with blackra1n RC3. Read the post here.
- Install SBSettings through Cydia.
- Customize the toggles that should appear in SBSettings.
Bear in mind that SBSettings will be running in the background, thus it will consume more battery.

thnxxx it worked for me :X
thanx for the tip!
thanks..
How does this stop GPRS? It’s doesn’t have a GPRS toggle. I am told by Maxis there is no way to turn off GPRS. If you turn off 3G and EDGE and you use wifi to surf, in the event wifi signal drops it will automatically use GPRS (since 3G and EDGE are off). The only solution is:
1) Maxis removes ur GPRS (meaning no more MMS also)
2) Switch to aeroplane mode when using wifi. When signal drops it cannot get into any Maxis network (you can get any phone calls / sms during then)
For the moment if i access the net and wifi is off, I can’t get online. So I presume there is no connection yet get charged. The reason is as stated above. Wifi signal drops automatically switches to GPRS. I already have SBSettings.
So guys even if you test your iphone and you can get online. You may still face the bill charges when ur wifi signal drops…
Anyone can share?
