URL shortener is useful to shorten an URL and make it easier to give away. For technology magazine editors, URL shortener is a compulsory tool for them to introduce a website.
Short URL does not only look tidier, but also gives a new identity to an URL. It allows you to pass proxy, redirect website or even insert keywords into it. 
SNURL allows you to include nickname, private key and title in the shorten URL.
TinyURL is compatible with most web browsers and platforms as long as your bookmarks or favorites allow javascript.
NotLong makes a shorter link which will use redirection to send users to the longer URL.
shlnk.com is a free service provided for internet users to generate shorter URLs to actual web pages.
Metamark is designed to handle millions of short urls.
A Shorter Link has a really simple interface. Too bad, it also full of Google ads.
Shurl allows you to have your preferred name of your short url.
doiop creates for you a short URL with a keyword you choose, making it easy to remember or give away.
MemURL lets you enter a web address to make it short and easy to remember.
To make a long story short: Shorl makes long URLs short.
Tip: If your website is banned from Digg or whatever, try URL shortener to redirect your website.

I tried all of those. Not bad. But I prefer http://easyuri.com. It is fast and allows me to create shorten URL fast with their browser toolbar. I can customize my url name too!!

I’d like to plug my own: twitw.at, it’s integrated with Twitter and has a few useful tools. I’m hoping that the URLs are generally more trustworthy because they are linked to Twitter accounts.
Also, Twitw.at has a cool bookmarklet for the browser’s toolbar!
