Transfer A WordPress Blog to Another Web Hosting Addon Domain
Today my girlfriend’s blog has exceeded it’s bandwidth. Therefore, I decided to transfer her WordPress blog to my web hosting since my web hosting is supporting unlimited addon domains.
8 steps to transfer a blog to addon domain
If you’re thinking of doing the same thing, here are the steps:
My blog: K-Director.com, my girlfriend’s blog: Jacez.com
- Backup entire WP blog folder - Download all Jacez.com’s WordPress files(e.g. /public_html/blog/) using FTP software like Filezilla or FlashFXP.
- Backup WordPress database - Go to Jacez.com’s “Cpanel - Backups”. Download the MySQL Database. Normally it labeled “wrpd1″.
- Add an addon domain - Go to K-Director.com’s “Cpanel - Addon Domain”, create a new domain under my web hosting.
- Install WordPress - Install WordPress in K-Director.com’s “Cpanel - Fantastico De Luxe”. (e.g. /public_html/jacez/)
*Note: Ignore the database filename. If your server already has a WordPress blog, the new WP database will be labelled as “wrpd2″. - Backup wp-config.php - Download a copy of wp-config.php in where you installed the WordPress. (e.g. /public_html/jacez/)
- Replace entire WP blog folder - If your previous WP blog is not the latest version and you don’t feel like upgrade it, then upload and replace all WordPress files using FTP software. Or else, skip this step.
- Replace wp-config.php - Replace wp-config.php in order to use the latest installed WP login information.
- Upload database - Check the name of new WP database. Rename the backup WP database and upload it in “Cpanel - Backups”.
That’s all the steps I used to complete the whole process. If you have any question/problem, leave a comment here. ![]()
Special Thanks
The whole process actually wasn’t that smooth. I forgot to enable “Hotlinking” for Jacez.com after I transfered the blog. I must thanks to Tony, Hongkiat and Hostgator support team in helping me to complete the whole process. Thank you guys,.
